Precious Moments was born when Sam Butcher began drawing teardrop-eye children which he entitled "Precious Moments" as gifts for friends and family. Not long afterward Sam was contacted by Enesco, a well known manufacturer of decorative collectibles. They asked him to design a figurine based on his artwork entitled “Love One Another." In 1978 the first twenty-one original Precious Moments figurines were introduced and they proved to be hugely popular with collectors.
