Loetz Glass
Loetz glass collectibles are highly prized by collectors for their rare and distinctive beauty. Loetz was founded by Johann Loetz in 1840 in Austria. When Johann died in 1848 his wife Susanna took control of the company. From this point forward it was known as Glasfabrik Johann Loetz-Witwe (translation: the Widow Johann Loetz Glassworks). Susanna Loetz ran the company successfully for many years and in 1879 passed control to her grandson Max Ritter von Spaun.
Loetz is most well known for their beautiful deep blue and gold iridescent finishes which Max developed in 1898 after many years of experimentation. Loetz was soon regarded as one of the preeminent creators of Art Nouveau glass worldwide. The Loetz company continued to produce glassware such as vases, bowls, compotes and plates for many years until they finally closed their doors during World War II.
Here at The Prudent Collector we are pleased to help you find the best prices possible on antique Loetz glass collectible items of all types.
