Carl Radke Silver Lustre Art Glass - Phoenix Studios
Carl Radke is an extremely talented glass artist who is highly respected in the art glass community. He is most well known as one of the principal participants in the renaissance of Silver Lustre Glass in the early 1970's. Lustre art glass is a style of glass that was originally created by Louis Tiffany in the late 1800's. By the mid 1920's it had fallen out of style and very nearly became a lost art. Lustre glass is an extremely difficult medium to work with greatly owing to the fact that the raw glass can be maintained in the oven for only a brief time it begins to degenerate. There is also the fact that is very expensive to work with due to the high silver content of the glass. Thus a failed project can be quite costly to say the very least. However Carl took up the challenge, suceeded tremendously and is now one of only a small handful of thousands of glassblowers that can successfully create beautiful silver lustre art glass creations.
Carl continues to create breathtaking art glass in a variety of styles at Phoenix Studios which he founded in 1975 in Templeton, CA. His works over time have consisted of vases, urns, jars and perfume bottles as well as paperweights, wine glasses, lamps and lamp shades. Many of his creations have been displayed in a number of renowned art galleries and exhibitions.
