Beswick Pottery Porcelain Figurines
Beswick pottery figurines are beloved by collectors around the world. Beswick is especially well known for their animal figurines, cartoon character figurines and above all their Beatrix Potter figurines. The John Beswick Pottery Company was founded in 1894 by John Beswick at Loughton, Stoke-on-Trent, England. In the beginning they only manufactured ceramic dinnerware and ornaments but by the early 1930's they had shifted towards producing animal figurines. Initially these figurines were comical in nature but in 1939 under the direction of chief modeller Arthur Gredington Beswick porcelain figurines took on a more realistic style. Their horse figurines which were modeled after champion racehorses proved to be a huge hit and soon Beswick was producing lifelike farm animal figurines of all types. Beswick gained a reputation for their immense attention to detail because their designers were well known for spending many hours studying at aviaries and museums in order to create very accurate ceramic animal representations.
In 1948 Beswick began to produce porcelain recreations of characters from the Beatrix Potter book series. The first figurine they created was Jemima Puddle-Duck which was designed by Arthur Gredington. It was joined by nine other characters including Peter Rabbit which proved to be the most popular figurine of the series. Beswick's Beatrix Potter figurines were an instant success and continue to be very popular among collectors to this very day. In 1952 Beswick collaborated with Disney to produce a Mickey Mouse figurine and in 1968 they once again partnered with Disney to create a series of Winnie the Pooh figures. Beswick's beautiful and whimsical porcelain figurines continue to be immensely popular with collectors. Here at The Prudent Collector we are pleased to help you find the best prices on Beswick figurines of all types.
