Murano GlassThe glassmakers of Murano, Italy have been at the forefront of glassmaking for many centuries. The history of Murano glass began in 1291 when the Venetian Republic, fearful of local glass makers setting fire to Venice's wood buildings, forced them to move to the island of Murano, located just off the shores of Venice.
