Giuseppe Armani - His Life and Artistic Legacy - Figurines and SculpturesGiuseppe Armani was born in the village of Calci, Italy in 1935. It was not long before it became evident to his parents that he was born to be an artist as he drew everything he could see from the moment he could pick up a pencil. Now mind you these were not the usual drawings of a child. Young Giuseppe created drawings of extraordinary detail and realism. As he grew his skill continued to grow and soon he began to dream of attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. Unfortunately his plans to attend this esteemed school were unexpectedly dashed when his father died suddenly. His artistic education had to be postponed as he was now required by his family at home. However Giuseppe continued to draw and his talent was soon recognized when a local priest organized an exhibition for the town's young artists. Giuseppe entered a sculpture of a male torso which was greatly admired for its detailed precision and its adherence to classical styling. The sculpture was taken to the Art Gallery in Pisa, located across the street from the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The owners of the gallery were amazed with its detail and beauty and immediately offered Giuseppe a permanent position. With a job in Pisa, Giuseppe's dream of studying art was finally realized. He immersed himself in the masterpieces of the Renaissance and began to perfect his personal style. He began to work in sculpture and soon had admirers far and wide flocking to the gallery to see his latest creations. In 1975, the Florence Sculpture d'Arte offered him a position working exclusively for their studio. He immediately accepted as he was promised complete artistic freedom to allow his talents to shine. For the following 31 years he created beautiful masterpieces ranging from traditional Capodimonte styling to more modern, contemporary sculptures. Some of his most popular creations were his Disney figurines. They consisted of Giuseppe's interpretation of Disney's most cherished characters such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Mickey Mouse, Pinocchio, the Little Mermaid and others. Tragically on October 28th 2006, Giuseppe Armani passed away suddenly, a victim of a massive stroke. His death was a great loss but his beautiful creations continue to live on as a testament to his artistic genius.
