The Salk Institute in La Jolla, CA will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with an art glass exhibit entitled “Chihuly at the Salk.” The outdoor exhibit will feature over a dozen hand-blown glass sculptures created by world-famous blown glass artist Dale Chihuly. Mr. Chihuly will give a lecture on April 25. He will be discussing his art glass works with a focus on his installation at the Salk.
“I always look for great places to install my artwork – environments that are interesting, beautiful and have a great architectural feel,” Dale Chihuly said. “The stark visually powerful architecture of the Salk Institute is just one of those kinds of places where I know my artwork and the architecture are going to come together just right.”
This exhibit includes two very notable pieces – “White Tower” and “The Sun”. Both of these pieces are 15 feet tall and are quite impressive. The community is invited to take a tour of the sculptures and meet Mr. Chihuly in a series of events from April 22-27.
