April 17, 2010 – Lladró will be unveiling their new limited edition sculpture entitled “Backstage Ballet” at an event in Los Angeles on April 29. This beautiful Lladró figurine was created in honor of the Los Angeles Ballet. The figurine beautifully depicts three young ballerinas rehearsing before a performance in Lladró’s inimitable and distinctive styling. It was sculpted by José Luis Santes and measures 14-1/4″ x 19-1/4″. Only 2500 pieces will be produced before it is retired.
Rosa Lladró, president of the Lladró porcelain company, will be present at the event and sign pieces. Ms. Lladró had this to say, “The founders of Lladró are trained artists. They studied fine art and have always been connected with the world of art in one way or another. In the specific theme of ballet as a support for the visual arts, depicting it in porcelain has given our sculptors an opportunity to explore anatomy and movement, as we see in our latest piece.” When asked why Lladró chose the Los Angeles Ballet to honor and the Beverly Hills boutique to feature this unveiling, she said: “California is such a unique and privileged space with such illustrious citizens and distinguished public. We decided on Beverly Hills because of its affinities with our own city (Valencia, Spain). We are at home here.”
Lladró will visit the Lladró Boutique (408 N. Rodeo Dr.) April 29 from 6-8 p.m. Dancers from the Los Angeles Ballet will also be present at the event. A portion of the sales from “Backstage Ballet” will be donated to the Los Angeles Ballet.
