This is a rather interesting tidbit – Faberge, the jeweler that made gem encrusted decorative Faberge eggs for Russian czars, says the quickest way to make money selling its $7 million brooches in a recession is to lure the wealthy into surfing the Web.
The jeweler, whose Russian roots date to 19th century St. Petersburg, will maintain one shop in Geneva after it started to take orders through the Internet on Sept. 9. A demonstration of the Web site, developed with International Business Machines Corp., showed a shopper examining a Faberge ring on her screen, zooming in to mimic magnification of a jeweler’s loupe and having a video chat with a saleswoman.
Faberge expects to sell mostly by dispatching jewel-bearing staffers to clients’ homes after they’ve finished Web surfing. Besides eschewing the retail network boasted by rivals such as Cartier, Faberge will also avoid advertising or incurring debt as the luxury slump that followed Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.’s collapse persists.
Now of course we know that the best place to get great deals on Faberge items is on eBay, check out some of the available items below!
